Thunder bay Arts Council, inc., incorporated since 1971 and granted 501
status in 1972, is a voluntary educational organization which has defined its
role with the following mission statement:
The Council is made up of some one hundred and fifty members and managed by a Board
of Directors and Officers of twenty five to thirty persons elected from the
membership. A part time office manager provides the only professional staff support
for the Council.
Each year the Council produces events in both the visual and performing arts.
Some of the
regular season performers (those listed on our annual membership pass) also
give workshops to a select group of school age children. Opportunity for young people
to enjoy and participate in these experiences is the heart of what the Thunder
Bay Arts Council is about.
During the summer months three concerts are produced at the city band
shell. We also sponsor an annual juried art festival "Art on the Bay" which is
held during the Brown Trout fishing tournament.
In addition to outside professionals, the Council sponsors local artists. Each year the Thunder Bay Arts Council Community Chorus provides a Christmas and a spring concert. TBAC also sponsors The New Day Singers concerts.
The Council recognizes a need to act as a facilitator in networking among the various arts organizations in the area.
We are an active group and take pride in what we are able to accomplish. With
new and renewed active Board members we will continue to broaden and delight the
community we all are a part of.
